PAINTING COMPETITION

PRIZE-WINNERS. *’’ 11 ■ f .Senior.—First, Master H. Sheild, Batea. Second, Florence Lambeth, Bell Block; third, Irene Warburton, New Ply* mouth. Junior. —First, Jean Ritchie, Inglewood; second, Josio Creelman, New Ply* nfouth; third, Ronald Rowe, Stratford. My dear old Tinks: Well, all the excitement of the painting competition is over and tho prize-winners chosen. I would have loved to have given every one of you prizes, but that would mean too much shopping, wouldn’t it? So I’ll have another competition instead, but I’ll tell you about that in a minute, because first of all I shall have to tell you something else. Of all those lovely little Japanese pictures that were sent in, do you know only half of them were signed! Aud it was in tho rules (in fact it was the most important one) that each little picture had to be signed by a grown-up. So Tinker Bell and Billikins and I sadly had to put away the little ones that weren’t and -only judge the little ones that were. Never mind, Tinks, you won’t forget. next time because Tinker Bell and Billikins and I don’t like to be sad, aud we wouldn’t like you to be sad, either. What would you say to a story on “Mt. Egmont?" Would you like that? I’m

sure you would, so shall we call it “The Legend of Mt. Egmont?” And you can. read up the legend or make one up and ■ send it in to me before July 27. I’m afraid there will have to be a few rules : for that, too, Tinks, as all good compe- i titions have to have rules, you know. So here they are.-.— (1) Your story, “The Legend of Mt. Egmont," must be in before July 27. (2) It musn’t be more than 300 or 400 words. t : (3) And it simply MUST be signed by a grown-up to say it’s your very own work! (4) Don’t forget, neat writing counts a lot. ’ , ; That's ah, little Tinks, and Tinker Bell and Billiking will be jumping about like jacks-in-boxes waiting to read them all, and to see who is going to win the prizes. Lots of love and hugs. 1 —Wendy*
