OUR POETRY
THE TUNNEL. (Sent by Thelma Warburton.) The grown-ups shut the windows tight, You see above your head a light, Unnoticed quite before. And all is black as blackest night, Then twilight-daylight-sunshine bright, We’re thro’ it with a roar! A LITTLE BIT. (Sent by Ruth Billing.) A little bit of feather from the pillow where I lie; A little bit of sunshine from the window up so high; The little bit of ticking from the clock makes such a noise, 'Cos it’s seven in the morning and so quiet for little boys. Our little bit of garden’s all a-sparkle I can see; I do wish Muinmie’d wake and dress a little bit of me! MAGIC MUSIC. (Sent by Esther Billing.) As I crossed over London bridge, One lovely morn in June, As I crossed over London bridge, I heard a magic tune. But never pipe nor harp saw I, But dancing water and cloudless sky. Ob.! whence may come this, melody? I asked myself all wonderingly. Is it river music from far below? Or echo of pageants long ago? . Or is it my heart, which is singing a tune, Because I am young, and tis morning and June? EVENING SONG. (Composed by Marjorie Sampson,) 1 The afternoon sun went down, rosy red, The birds, ceasing twittering, tucked | down into bed, The lambs nestled close up cosy, and warm, o sleep by their mothers till again came the dawn.
PUSSY-CAT. (Original by Doris Putt.) Pussy cat, pussy cat, where have you been ? I've been down town to have an icecream. Pussy cat, pussy cat, you’ll surely die; To save you I must have an Eskimo !'>-'• ROYALTY. (Sent by Kathleen Bishop.) la London you may really see Princes and Princesses; Wearing, just like you or me ordinary dresses; Driving in the parks and streets: baby ones with nurses, Or even walking on their feet, and shopping with their purses.
