WEDDING
HOLMES—LAMBIE. The Piharna Church was the scene of a pretty wedding on Wednesday, July 3, the contracting parties being Margaret, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. Lambie, and Lawrence Clifford, the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. D. M. Holmes. Both families are old and respected residents of the Piharna district. The Rev. W- E. Evans, of Hawera, performed the ceremony. The bride, who was given away by her father, was becomingly attired in a frock of ivory crepe de chine and wore the orthodox veil and orange blossoms. She also wore dainty silver shoes and carried a beautiful bouquet of spring flowers, the gift of Miss Dolly Forsyth. Miss Evelyn Mehr tens (Ngaere) and Miss Thelma Gibson (Normanby) attended as bridesmaids, the former wearing a frock of baby blue crepe de chine with silver trimmings and tulle headdress to match. The latter wore a frock Off maize crepe de chine with silver trimmings and tulle head-dress. Both carried beautiful bouquets, the gift of Mrs. Faull (Stratford). Mr. Edward Lass acted as best man, and Mr. Lindsay Forsyth as groomsman. Mr. W. Markham presided at the organ and played the Wedding March. The bride’s present to the bridegroom was a handsome oak writing desk and the bridegroom’s present to the bride a string of pearls. His gifts to the bridesmaids were manicure sets. The reception was held at the residence of the bride’s parents, where the Rev. J. G. Wheatley presided. The usual toasts were honoured and the best of wishes tciglered the newly-married couple. Mrs. Lambie, who received the guests, wore a black ensemble suit with
hat to match, and the bridesgrooin’s mother wore a navy frock with hat to match. Both carried posies of spring flowers. The main feature of the bridal table was a prettily decorated three-tier wedding cake, made and presented to the bride by Mrs. Mehr tens (Ngaere). The wedding presents were numerous and costly and included several substantial cheques. The happy couple left for a motor tour of Hawke’s Bay and Auckland districts, the bride’s travelling dress being a brown costume with hat to match. Their future home will be at Taungatara, near Opnnake. GATENBY—-CRAWFORD, The Roman Catholic church, Opunake, was the scene of the wedding on Tuesday last of Minna Constance, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Crawford, Te Kiri, and Thomas Mellor, only son of Mr. and Mrs. T. Gatenby, Awatuna. The Rev. Father Dillon officiated. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a beautiful frock of shell pink satin crepe-de-chine trimmed with silver lace and sprays of orange blossoms with a shell pink veil embroidered with silver. She wore silver shoes and carried a lovely bouquet of roses and maiden hair fern. The bride was attended by her cousin, Miss Maggie Thomas, as bridesmaid. Miss Thomas looked very dainty in a mauve crepe-de-chine frock trimmed with tiny frills and silver leaves. She wore a lemon picture hat and carried a bouquet of lemon roses and wore silver shoes and stockings to match. Little Joan and June Connell wore dainty frilled frocks of apricot crepe-de-chine and tulle mob caps and carrying pretty posies attended as flower girls. Mr. Arthur Birkett carried out the duties of best man. The wedding breakfast was held at the residence of the bride's parents, Eltham Road. Mr. and Mrs. Gatenby afterwards left by motor for Auckland, where the honeymoon is to be spent. The bride travelled in a smart tailor made costume with hat to match. The bride’s gift to the bridegroom was a silver shaving outfit, and the bridegroom’s ’gift to the bride was a gold wristlet watch; to the bridesmaid a gold armlet and to the flower girls pearl necklaces.
