SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETS, (From Our Own Correspondent.) . The monthly meeting of the Inglewood school committee was held bn Wednesday evening, when Messrs. J. Roberta (chairman), A. Kirk (secretary), I. Grant, P. Speedily, W. Wanklyn, Feavcr, Braybrooke, M. Sutherland, W. Armstrong and Kirk (headmaster) were present. Some discussion took place regarding the range in the technical school. The range, etc., had been cleaned for some time but as no payment had been received from the Education Board the practice had been dropped. It was decided to ask the instructor to send a protest to tho board. The headmaster (Mr. Kirk) reported tliat the roll stood at 296, with an average attendance of 265. The previous week the atendance had been good but it had dropped considerably, tbcro being over 50 children away with influenza and colds, etc. The school nurse and the drill instructor had visited the school. The headmaster stated that a number of teachers had complained of tho way the school was cleaned. He considered this a very serious matter, especially since there was so much sickness about, and in his opinion the school was not cleaned as it should be. Tho matter was left in the hands of the chairman. The visiting committee reported that a skylight, a fire-place and a window were broken and needed immediate attention. . Mr. Braybrooke was authorised to have these repaired. The secretary stated that £53 had already been collected for the proposed dental clinic, the required amount being £76. It was thought this would soon be available. It was decided to forward £5O to the Education Board and make application for the erection of a dental? clinic, and that a letter be, forwarded to the director of dental hygiene advising' him that the sum had been forwarded. Some discussion took place on the matter of holding a school ball to raise funds for various school matters, and it was decided, if possible, to hold the ball on September 2G. It was decided to ask Mrs. M. Sutherland to convene a meeting of ladies for this purpose. Tho secretary was instructed to forward a letter to Miss Evans to condole with her in her recent bereavement. The matter of giving prizes was brought up. It was stated that the headmaster was against the giving of prizes, but all the committee were in favour of it and the matter was left for a later meeting. ' It was stated that for a number of years no children, from Inglewood had entered for the junior national scholarship and the committee thought that after this children should enter.
