PATHFINDER SUCCESSFUL PETROL SUPPLY GIVES OUT FORCED LANDING IN SPAIN By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received July 10, 5.5 p.m, Australian Press Association. United Service. London, July 9. A message from Santander, Spain, states that the trans-Atlantic plane Pathfinder landed on the beach owing to lack of petrol and is now on the way to Rome, which was the objective of the flight. . A later message from Madrid states the Pathfinder aviators were carried shoulder-high to the residence of the Civil Governor of Santander. News of tho landing spread rapidly and the roads were soon crowded with people anxious to get a glimpse of the airmen. They, in the meantime, through interpreters,, were asking the Governor if he could provide enough .petrol to carry them to Rome. "
It was pointed out that neither fuel nor lights were available at the emergency aerodrome and they then decided to spend the night at Santander and depart in the morning. The airmen expressed great disappointment that they had been unable to reach Rome on a non-stop flight. They stated they had a magnificent flight across the Atlantic.
