ALBERT ROAD. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Amichst much enthusiasm our annual plain and fancy drees dance proved an unqualified success. The Egmont Village Hall, which had been taken specially for the occasion, proved not too large to accommodate the eager dancers, and to the strains of Harris’ Orchestra, which made dancing a delight, a most enjoyable evening was spent. Extras were played by Miss K. Dodunski. Much credit is due to the energetic committee for the success of the function and under capable M.’sC., Messrs. E. Pierce and W. Petersen, there was never a dull moment.

The hall, tastefully decorated with the many pretty dress and fancy costumes worn, presented an animated appearance. Prizes were as follows: Miss Alma Smith (Ist) made a charming Maori maiden, while Miss Rundell (2nd) as “Buy British Goods” made the slogan apt. Mr. H. Smith (Ist gent’s), as an Albanian was typical, and Master Jack Kemp (2nd) as Coon supplied the minstrel touch. Novelty dances were won by Mr. Shallard and Miss D. Olsen and Mr. C. Hurlstone and Miss Longstaff.

Mr. Belcher kindly officiated as judge with general satisfaction, after which a dainty supper was served by the ladies of the committee: Messrs. Smith (2), Dravitski, Jordan and Olsen.

Some of the dresses worn were as follows:—

Miss Marjorie Bowan, Australian Home Journal; Miss V. Keenan, Pierette; Miss J. Bishop, Spanish Dancer; Miss J. Keenan, Buttercup; Mr. Chateris, Highlander; Miss M. Olsen, Pierette; Miss Rundell, British Goods; Miss Nancy Kemp, Spring; Mrs. Balsom,. Good Luck; Mr. Mace, Totem Boy; Miss K. Dodunski, Harem Lady; Miss M. Dravitzski, Punchinello; Miss G. Dodunski, Miss Pom Pom; Miss M. Bowan, Ribbons; Miss N. Longstaff, Cigarette Cards; Miss K. Kemp. Baggie Breeches; Miss A. Smith, Maori Maiden; Miss N. Smith, Early Victorian; Mr. H. Smith, Albanian; Master Jack Kemp, Coon. With the advent of more extensive top-dressing and the splendid past season for growth, stock generally are looking remarkably well, despite the proximity to Taranaki’s sentinel. Several settlers have joined the herdtesting association, and with more ,to follow the coming season. Providing the use of good pedigree Jersey bulls, of which there are some flue specimens of the breed already here is continued, prospects for increased returns is certainly assured.
