STOCK EXCHANGE STAGNANT
CAUSE DIFFICULT TO DEFINE. VARIOUS INFLUENCES AT WORK. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, July 7. Dullness on the Stock Exchange is greatly concerning stockbrokers. The position is difficult to clarify, since the influences at work on it at present are a curious mixture of political fears, financial technicalities and mass reaction against last year’s rampant gambling. The public, nevertheless, is inclined to speculate. The uncertainty regarding safeguarding is adversely effecting industrial stocks. In view of likelihood of a renewal of Anglo-Russian relations it is interesting to observe that American capital lately has been pouring into Soviet Russia in renewed volume. It is doubtful, whatever happens, whether British capitalists would be equally enthusiastic.
