MYSTERY DISEASE

DOGS THE VICTIMS. PERIODIC EPIDEMIC. a mysterious disease is sweeping the dogs of England, and especially of South Kensington, London, where scores have died within a few days. A veterinary surgeon in the district states that the disease is gastro-enter-Itls, but neither the cure for it nor how it is spread is known. All over England dogs have been attacked, and In almost every case the disease has proved fatal. Mr, Henry Gray, a member of the Royal College of Veterinaiy Surgeons, of Redfield Lane, Kensington, S.W., has said:— “Within the last few days I have dealt with 12 cases in Kensington, all o-f them fatal. I have had dogs brought to me at 0 p.m., and in less than an hour they have been dead. There is no question of poisoning. Every four or live years there comes a wave of •this disease. Every 30 years there comes an epidemic. The last was in IS9B. It is very rare that two dogs in a house will catch the disease. The age of the dog makes no difference, nor does the breed. I have had during the last few days inquiries from all over the country about the matter, and they are very difficult to answer.” •
