ILLICIT STILL FOUND

HEAVY FINES INFLICTED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Invercargill, Last Night. Yesterday afternoon a visit was paid by the police to a farm house in the Grove Bush district. The house was found to be unoccupied at the time of the visit and it, as well as two nearby sheds, was securely locked. Acting under a warrant in their possession, the police forced the doors and found evidence of illicit distillation in the dwelling-house as well as in the out-sheds. After taking stock of the position, two of the police returned to Invercargill by car, leaving two constables in charge of the premises. At about 7 p.m. the occupier arrived and was arrested by the constables and taken to Invercargill. In the Police Court this afternoon William Burke, farmer, Grove Bush, was fined a total of £250 on two charges of having spirits in his possession on which full duty had not been paid, and for having on his premises apparatus suitable for distilling. Accused pleaded guilty to both charges.
