The Southern Cross airmen spent yesterday repairing the engines and departed this morning for Bunder Abbas. A whole day was spent in overhauling the engine with R.A.F. mechanics. The Southern Cross left at 5.55 a.m. on the eighth stage of the flight from Sydney to England. If the overhaul at Karachi had been completed quickly the plane would have left there on Friday for Bagdad. The fliers proposed to leave there at 9 a.m. on Sunday for Rome, a non-stop flight, and to leave Rome at 6 a.m. on Tuesday for the final 80 miles to Croydon. The monoplane, with Squadron-Leader Kingsford Smith, Flight-Lieutenant C. T. P. Ulm (co-pilots), Mr. H. A. Litchfield (navigator) and Mr. T. H. McWilliams (wireless operator), left Richmond; Sydney, on June 22.
