THREE TEAMS IN EACH DIVISION SET-BACK FOR SOUTHERN LEADERS STAR ELIMINATE OLD BOYS IN NORTH The third series of the second round .in<itches in the l<uan<iki Rugby competition was decided on Saturday in fine but dull weather, and with the grounds in good order, A remarkable feature was the reversal of form as compared with the same series of matches in the first round, only two of the winning teams on that occassion, Inglewood in the Northern division and Waimate in the Southern, gaining the victory on Saturday. The principal surprises were the defeat of Ilawera by Okaiawa and the draw between Patea and Opunake. As a result, Opunake now have a point lead over Okaiawa, who move up into second place with Ilawera a point further back. Athletic defeated Kaponga and Waimate again defeated Eltham. In the Northern division Star turned the tables on Old Boys after an even game, defeating them at the close of the game by 11 points to 9, thus retaining their lead and eliminating Old Boys from the championship. Stratford also turned the tables on Clifton and remain in second place a point further back, whilst Inglewood defeated Okato and are still in third place two points behind.
