THIRD DAY OF SHOW

BIG CROWD THRONGS HALL KENNEL CLUB DISPLAY OPEN JUDGE GREATLY IMPRESSED QUALITY ABOVE AVERAGE Quality well above the average was displayed by the animals on exhibition at the New Plymouth Kennel Club s annual show, which commenced yesterday, the third day of the Taranaki Metropolitan Agricultural Society's winter show, in conjunction with the agricultural, motor and poultry shows. The bright, sunny weather drew a big crowd and, with the town school children, who were granted a holiday, throngs of visitors swarmed into the Agricultural Hall morning, afternoon and night. Though only a comparatively young body the Kennel Club has shown itself to be very live, and yesterday’s show attracted entries from parts of the North Island far away from New Plymouth. In the opinion of the judge, Mr. James Mason, the quality in all breeds compared more than favourably with that seen by him at the shows he had visited this season. It is evident that the club has come to stay and its display is becoming more attractive each year. In the fox terrier class, said Mr. Mason, the winner Meriden Masher, was a dog of correct size, thoroughly typical, full of character and in the pink of condition. It was undoubtedly the best dog of the show. The winners among the wire-haired fox terriers exhibited the same good points and were shown in tiptop condition. Exceptional quality was shown by the principal winners in the cocker spaniels and they were very true to type. The winning black bitch, Bell Bowdler, was very difficult to fault, was thoroughly typical ..nd was shown in excellent trim. Daisy Bowdler was very little inferior to the winner and Vogel Rally was a particularly good specimen of the breed. With the class as a whole he was very pleased. Two excellent puppies took premier honours in the bulldog classes a dog, Naughty Boy and a bitch, Stolen Love and the latter was easily the winner of the "best opposite sex dog in the show. In fact, Mr. Mason considered that if this animal developed as it promised it would be a hard nut to crack at the adult stage. Naughty Boy was very close in merit. Both were massive animals, with well shaped heads, splendid fronts, legs and feet and with bodies truly characteristic of the breed. The Alsatians were a fine class in Mr, Mason’s opinion, the winning bitch, Luck of Vindobona, being a classical specimen. Competition in the bitch puppy section was particularly keen and he was impressed with the high order of merit shown. There was little between the three placed animals. Another strong class was the collie section and the prize dog, Laund Aristocrat, and the best bitch, C. H. Levens Aristocrat, wore very aptly named and would not disgrace themselves in the hottest of competition. Two other excellent specimens the judge singled out for praise were the English setter bitch Holme Gem and the Irish setter dog Cornelistone O'Connor. Other breeds were well represented and, in the words of Mr. Mason, “the whole show is one which reflicts great credit on the fanciers who have provided such an attractive and meritorious exhibition.” The organisation of the Kennel Club show was in the hands of the president, Mr. F. Swindells, and the secretary, Mr. F. W. Copestake, who were assisted by the other officers of the club. The winter show will be open all day to-day and' will conclude to-night. Today will be the country school children's day and a record attendance is expected. An added attraction will be a parade of the winning dogs which it is hoped to arrange. Details of the Kennel Club awards yesterday are:—
