DOMAIN BOARD MEETING. IMPROVEMENTS RECOMMEN DED. r (From Our Own Correspondent.) The annual meeting of the Patea Domain Board was held on Thursday. Messrs Papps, Hemingway, Fairweather, Cronin and Jenkins (secretary) were present. Air. E. F. Hemingway was unanimously elected chairman for the ensuing year. The resignation of Air. J. D. Thomson was accepted with regret, appreciation being placed on record of Mr. Thomson’s services. Air. F. W. Locker was nominated to fill the vacancy. Air. E. F. Warren, trustee of the Hunter Shaw Estate, advised that he had forwarded the sum -f £3OO for tho erection of children’s playground fixings and for the purchase of a motor lawn-mower, the balance to be spent in general improvements as tho board thought necessary. The board tendered heartiest thanks to Air. Warren for the additional grant. The use of the training shed as for roller-skating pur; ises was approved and the fee fixed at 30s per night. The Football Club was granted use of the shed on Tuesday nights. The ground committee reported the domain was in good order, most of the hedges having beei. trimmed since the last meeting of the board. Tho remaining hedges and paths would receive attention during the month. The various portions of the community paddock were occupied bv their respective tenants, who had done excellent work in clearing the hip’. . Already work to the value of the whole of the new fencing erected had been carried out, and the whole paddock should shortly bo clear of lupin. Owing to the dry season it had been found ncvossary to instal two troughs at a cost of £3 in order to provide water for each paddock.

In accordanca with tha suggestions put forward 1 y Air. War. :i, the committee had considered the question of providing a lawn-mower, shelter shed, swings, etc., for the children’s playground. The committee recommended ° Tho club had visited various homes, cost of JMOO. Estimates had also been obtained for the making of swings, and that of Messrs Aitcliison, Ltd., for £2B 10s, was recommended. Th same firm offered to supply the necessary timber for the erection of a shelter shed for £33 in o.b. and £44 in heart timber. The acceptance of the tender was recommended, the erection to be left in the committee’s, hands.

The croquet club, which Ifad been given permission to extend its courts, had commenced the work under expert supervision, and had agreed to carry it out subject to the board’s approval. The result of that work had been considerably to improve the board’s property. The whole work was being carried out without any expenditure by the board, and should greatly enhance that portion of the domain which was first seen by visitors approaching the gates. The committee recommended that a seat be provided on the hill near the Oxford Street entrance as recommended by Mr. Warren. The erection of tho appliances and shelter shed was left in the hands pf Messrs Papps, Cronin, Jenkins, Fairweather and the chairman. The committee appointed in eonnec-, tion with th© erection of the swings was asked to go into the matter of seats and report at the next meeting. Thanks were accorded Mrs. Peterson for her Poppy Day appeal for funds for the memorial gates. PERSONAL ITEMS. Mr. E. P. McCarthy, who was injured in a shooting accident on Tuesday, is reported to be progressing satisfactorilv. Mr. W. Black, formerly headmaster of Whenuakura School, left on Wednesday for Belfast, Ireland. ST. GEORGE’S GIRLS’ CLUB. ANNUAL MEETING OF MEMBERS. The annual meeting of the St. George’s Girls’ Club was held at the vicarage on Tuesday evening, tho Rev. 0. Gibson presiding. Regret was expressed that Miss H, Sheild had declined to accept nomination for the position as president, in which capacity she had proved herself an efficient and enthusiastic member. The election of officers resulted; President, Miss A. Leversedge; vice-pre-sidents, Miss N. Kelly and Mrs. M. A. Pearce; secretery, Aliss M. Glenny; treasurer, Miss G. Wood; committee, Misses L. Carey, R. Honeyfield, V. Sheild, E. Adams and officers ex officio, fl ,w. .TsQ 800-Y-Hvpac-SAm cmfyp The balance-sheet showed a credit balance of £3 18s. The annual report stated the past year had been the most successful in the history of the club. The membership increased to 30 active members, with an average attendance of 15 at th© meetings. Fourteen sewing nights were held during the year, at which work was done for* tho club’s stall at the annual flower show. The stall realised £23. Regrot was. expressed at the departure of several members from the district, but an increased membership was hoped for during the coming year. The club had visited various homes tho visits being very successful and thanks and appreciation were expressed -to the club’s hostesses. Thanks were also expressed to others who had assisted the club during the year. It was resolved that all subscriptions bo paid by June 30 and that the club meet on alternate Tuesdays and visit
