PREPARATIONS FOR ' By Telegraph.—Press Association. Palmerston N., April 19. Work was commenced on the railway deviation to-day in tearing up eight miles of track which had been laid, and tho collection of materials for storage. Several officers have received notice of transfer to the Gisborne and Nelson districts. , . . ...... Following the inquiries instituted, about 90 per cent, of the men have signified their wllingness to be transferred to other undertakings. Ten men are proceeding to Gisborne on Monday, and forty by tho end of next week. There aro 150 general labourers employed on the deviation.
