Mrs. E. O’Meara was a Wanganui visitor to Hawera during the week Mrs. O’Meara did the judging in the cooking section at the summer show.

Another of a series of bridge evenings given by the Hawera Tennis Club was held in the Islington rooms on Monday evening, and as a result the funds of the club should benefit considerably. Oh Monday last Miss Ami Wills was hostess at a very happy afternoon in honour of Misses Eileen and Kathleen Goodson, who have recently returned from Australia. Among the guests were the Misses Goodson, Miss Dora Hawken, Misses Lilian and Ruth Pease, Miss Joyce Powdrell, Miss Dolly Meyrick and Miss Anne Page.

Mr. and Mrs. Rowe, Hawera, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Padcoe, New Plymouth, and Mrs. Cressey, Hawera, returned home last week-end after a very pleasant motor tour of Hawke's Bay, Taupo and Auckland. * # * #

To-morrow the Mount Egmont Alpine Club’s thirteenth tramp will call for more exertion than has been required for previous tramps, the trip chosen being from Daw’sdn Falls to Bell’s Falls, the party leaving Dawson Falls at 8 a.m. under the leadership of Mr. Lcn Vine, Manaia. Those not wishing to undertake the whole journey, and arrangin'- to set out from North Egmont house, injjt leave at 9.15 a.m. to enable them to meet the main party at Humphrey’s Castle at 10.30 a.m. Likewise those leaving the Stratford house must meet the main party at the junction of the Stratford plateau at 8.45 a.m. This trip should be one of the most interesting yet undertaken by the club.

The members of the Women’s National Reserve entertained the wives and mothers of soldiers who served theii country in the war at tea in the Carlton on Monday afternoon. The function was a very pleasant and successful one about SO being present. Mrs. Pacey (the Mayoress) welcomed the guests, and the Rev. E. S. Emmett gave a much appreciated address on the great part taken by women in the war. Items were given as follows:—-Miss Mary Crocker (Eltham), “Slave Song” and “An Emblem”; Miss Johnston, “Willow Song” and “My Task”;. Miss Nancy Kent, musical monologue, “Next Week" and “I Want to Go With Daddy”; Miss Winnis Hoddle, pianoforte solo. Accompaniments were very capably played by Mrs. Taylor and Miss Winnis Hoddle

The Hawera Ladies’ Golf Club held its closing day on Friday last, when a large number of members and visitors were present from all parts of South Taranaki. After afternoon tea had been served in the clubhouse, the presentation of trophies took place. Miss E. Burgess (the club president) presented the trophies as follows:—Senior championship, Mrs. A. Thomson; runner-up, Mrs. W. G. Walkley; junior championship, Miss G. Knight; runner-up, Mrs. A. Bayly; Tonks rose bowl, Mrs. A. Thomson; McLean, memorial bowl, Mrs. Wake (10 best medal rounds); junior bogey, Miss R. Pease; flag match, Mrs. Dickie; two-day bogey, Mrs. Dickie, one-club match, Miss D. Richardson; senior Yankee, Miss D. Hawken; twoday eclectic, Miss Dora Hawken; sealed handicap, Mrs". Corfe; four-ball best ball bogey, Miss Katie Robertson and Miss L. Hawken; Canadian foursome, Mrs. Hawthorne and Miss Ruth Pease; L.G.U. silver medal, Miss Grace Death; senior eclectic, Miss K. Robertson; senior eclectic (handicap), Miss Burgess; junior eclectic (2), Miss Ruth Pease and Miss Jean Blair; monthly medal matches played during the season, Mrs. Foyster (2), Mrs. Thomson, Mrs. Wake (2), and Mrs. Dickie.

Keen competition was shown in the closing day competitions, which resulted as follows:—Senior bogey, Mrs. Dickie, 1 up; junior bogey, Mrs. McAnerin, 4 down; consolation, Miss Dolly Meyrick; senior driving, Miss K. Robertson; junior driving, Miss Jean Blair; senior approaching and putting, Mrs. Thomson (after a play-off with Mrs. Corfe and Miss Hawken); junior approaching and puttitfg, Mrs. Rudge; con tinuous putting, Mrs. L.
