UNOCCUPIED HOUSE AFIRE

SUSPICIONS CONCERNING CAUSE. BRIGADE MAKES GOOD SAVE. Suspicious circumstances, it is alleged, suround an outbreak of fire in an unoccupied seven-roomed house in Belt Road, New Plymouth, last night. The former occupants moved out on Thursday and the place was bare of furniture. Receiving a telephone call at 9.15, the brigade were very quickly at the scene of the fire, between Dvon Street and St. Aubyn Street. The flames were extinguished before more than about £lOO worth of damage was done. The cause of the outbreak 'f» unknown at present, according to a statement made to a reporter last night. It is alleged, however, that in several parte of the building were found heaps of inflamable material that appeared to have been arranged ready for lighting. It is understood the police are making investigations. The owner of the place, which was fairly old, is Airs. Mary Mather, of Gone Street. The insurances were not available last night.
