WORK DURING PAST MONTH. At a meeting of tho New Plymouth branch of the Red Cross Society on Tuesday evening there were present: Mr. H. C. Morgan (presiding), Mesdames Griffiths, Newman, Avery, Patrick, Misses Cant and Arthur, tho Rev. J. D. Wilson, Mr. V, Griffiths and the secretary (Miss Gibson), Reporting on her work during the month, Sister Corkill said, in part:— “Senior classes. —New Plymouth Home Nursings The second course for this year is now in progress, Oakura Home Nursing: An examination was held recently by Dr. D. E. Brown and Mrs. L. M, Craig, when the ten candidates passed exceedingly well, the examiners commenting on th© excellence of the work. The following are the successful candidates: Mesdames Cochran, Harris, Mahon; Misses Ballinger, Costley, I. Haskell, A. Honeyfield, K. Morris, M. Rusling and F, Thomas. "At the request of th© women’s division of the Farmers’ Union at Auroa, I visited the monthly meeting, of the branch and gave an address on nursing. A request was made for regular nursing talks, but as Auroa is so far distant from New Plymouth It was arranged that the matter be left over until the new year, when there will be a nurse stationed in South Taranaki. A promise was, however, given for another talk in November, when? more definite arrangements can be made. "Junior classes (first aid). —Girls’ High School: This class was completed last week, and an examination is at present being conducted by Dr. P. 0. Davie. Girl Guides; Th© class is progressing steadily. S. Mary’s School (Stratford): Glass completed, and examination to be held this week. “Junior Red Cross.—Visits have been pail to th© Moturoa, Bell Block, Tiko■rangi, Waitara, Bird Road, Eltham, and Te Kiri and Urenui schools. Weekly health talks are being given at the Moturoa School. Most of the Taranaki circles arc sending in entries to the headquarters competitions, which close next month. “Arrangements are well in hand to send a nursing team to Wellington in December to compete for the Coilins Cup. Our team is now chosen, and the members will next week begin special classes of training. To assist in the raising of funds towards the team’s expenses a bridge party has been arranged for next week. “Relief work,—l have spent a good deal of time on relief work and visits this month, and have given a number of treatments. We now have several women who' ar© willing to carry on this branch of the work when I begin with the Health Department next month.” The date for th© annual street day appeal was fixed for October 26 pending th© confirmation of that date by the borough council.
