PENALTIES OF CRIME
SENTENCES AT WELLINGTON. Br Teiegra-ph.—Press Association. Wellington, Oct. 12. Prisoners were sentenced by Mr. Justice Ostler Tn the Supreme Court as follows: Samuel Herman Bird (28), who bad pleaded guilty at Palmerston North to theft on four charges, nine months' hard labour. George Edward Nelson, or Bernsee, forgery, uttering and theft at Hamilton, New Plymouth and Dannevirke, three years’ reformative detention. Tiwha Iti, breaking, entering and theft at Hawera, received a similar sentence. Samuel Ansley McKay (28), theft as servant in Wellington, forgery and uttering, nine months’ hard labour. Walter Heiford (48), attempted arson at Dannevirke, 12 months’ hard labour’.
