At the rifle meeting, in the Jamieson match, at 800 yards, two men, Poyitt (Sydney) and Hutchins (Yorkshire), with a possible, shared first place. Iver (Petone) and Vennell (Masterton) were 16th and 30th respectively, each with 48, taking £l. In the John Walker match, at 900 yards, three competitors, James, Cameron and Sutton, all of New South Wales, tied with 49. Vennell was 86th and 'Mclver 90th, each with 44, taking £l. In the Motton match, at 400 yards, four tied with 49, the best being Davies (Victoria) and Nott (South Australia). There were no New Zealanders. The Longfield Aggregate was won by James (Parramatta) with 276 out of a possible 300. The first stage of the King’s Prize match is being tired to-day. * Received Get. 10, 8.5 p.m. Sydney, Oct. 10. Competitors at the Anzac range were to-day occupied in the first stage of the King’s Prize match at 300, 500 and 600 yards. A moderate to gusty right front wind caught many even experienced shots napping, but the scores will not be ready until later. In the Longfield Aggregate, which is for the six matches fired on Monday and Tuesday, Vennell (New Zealand) was 14th with 269, taking £4 in prize money. The Dodds Aggregate, for the three matches on Tuesday, was won by Major James (Concord) with 141. Mclver was 20th with 136, and Vennell 51st with 133. Each of them took £1 in prize money.
