PROTECTING TRADE ROUTES

WORK OF EMPIRE’S NAVIES. THE AUSTRALIA IN WELLINGTON By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Admiral G. F. Hyde and the stall of H.M.A.S. Australia were entertained by the Government to-day at a luncheon. A few parliamentarions were present. “We in New Zealand are inseparabaly wrapped up with the fortunes of Australians,” said the Prime Minister. “We are trying to make exactly the same provision in principle for the efficient protection of our trade routes by joining with Australia and other parts of the Empire in methods that will effect that object.” Mr. Coates congratulated the Prime Minister and people of Australia in taking the course they had to ensure their trade routes would be protected. Trade relations between New Zealand and Australia had always been pleasant, and the good feeling among sister countries was growing more and more along the lines of the general desire of most people in the Empire to combine to a greater extent than hitherto. The Prime Minister voiced the wish that the units of the New Zealand and th© Australian navies might meet for the purposes of-training and fraternising.
