Epinard was selected as one of two outstanding animals in the stables of Mr. A. M. Montgomery. The other, his half brother Benefactor, the unbeaten champion horse of Scotland, could not be secured for export, but realised 4500gns. at the Netherhall dispersal sale in March. His sire, Fyvie Sensation, is the finest type of Clydesdale of modern times. Unbeaten in the show-ring, he has won all tire principal trophies available for competition, including the Cawdor Cup, the Brydon Shield, and the Farming News Challenge Cup for the-Supreme Championship of the Scottish Stallion Show. Dunure Refiner, the sire of Rolene, was also a Cawdor Cup and Brydon Shield champion. Dunure Footprint, the greatest breeding sire in the history of the breed, is backed in Epinard’s pedigree by Auchenflower, Dunure Baron and MontVave Mae, all champions of their time.
