CHURCH FUNDS SHORT
ABSCONDING MAN ARRESTED. .LOSS OF £200,000 ALLEGED. Winnipeg, Oet. 2. The police arrested Clinton Carnes who fled from Atlanta (Georgia) when the accounts of the Baptist Church were £200,000 short, while ho was negotiating with leading business men for the purchase of a hotel. Carnes threw up his hands when caught, declaring: “I think that they are £200,000. My life was one of terror through blackmailing by people who threatened to expose my prison record. I shall return home and face the music without a murmur.” He said that he expected to receive some money from two girls he had sent to Hollywood, if and when they reached stardom. “They may still earn enough to get me cut of gaol,” he cheerfully insisted
