BUSY SCENE AT WHARVES
SEVERAL HOME LINERS BERTHED. Taranaki’s port should present a busy scene to-day. In addition to the overseas vessels, Wairuna and Port Dunedin, which are in port, the Norwegian motor-ship Vestvard will probably berth this morning. The Devon is also due this morning from Lyttelton. The coastal vessel Totara is in port and two more, the John and the Alexander, will probably arrive to-day. The Port Dunedin was due to complete loading dairy produce at the Newton King wharf last night, but loading operations were suspended on account of wet weather. She was to sail at about 6 a.m. this morning for Wellington to complete loading. The Wairuna is discharging Pacific Coast cargo at Moturoa wharf, and will probably sail again on Saturday for Auckland, where she will be docked before proceeding to Apia and Vancouver. The Vestvard, a Norwegian motorship, has 5000 cases of motor spirit for discharge at New Plymouth. She loaded at Port Arthur, Texas. The motor-ship arrived off the port about 4 p.m. yesterday after a stormy passage from Wellington, and is expected to sail again this evening for Beauty Point, Tasmania. The s.s. Devon (9661 tons) will arrive this morning to discharge Liverpool cargo and to load for American and English ports. She may have to lie at anchor until the Port Dunedin vacates her berth at the Newton King wharf. The coastal vessel Totara arrived last night with cargo from southern ports. The John left Wanganui yesterday and is due to-day, while the Alexander should arrive this afternoon with a cargo of coal from Westport.
The Kaimanawa was scheduled to arrive yesterday with a cargo of coal, but she is barbound at Westport.
