The death of Mr. John Tunbridge, formerly Chief Commissioner of Police in New Zealand, is reported by cable from London. Mr. N. A. Christiansen, formerly of New Plymouth, and now of Castlepoint, Wairarapa, is on a short visit to the Taranaki town. Mr. Keith Poulton, aged 20, a prominent tennis player, who visited New Zeas land in 1923, was killed in a motor accident in the Mosman suburb, states a Sydney cable. The appointment of Lieutenant-Gen-eral Halliday, Adjutant-General of the Royal Marines, to be General, Royal Marines, is gazetted, states a British Official Wireless message. General Halliday won the Victoria Cross for bravery during an attack on the British Legation at Peking some 28 years ago, Miss Blanche Tobin, the missionary in China whose capture by bandits has been reported, was a grand-daughter of the late Major Charles Brown, of New Plymouth. Her father, a schoolmaster in Taranaki over 50 years ago, married. Miss Laura Brown, whose. sister, Mrs. John Brown, still lives in New Plymouth. Auckland nominations for the Rhodes scholarship are Mr. P. C. Minns, in the final year for his 8.A., who was educated at Auckland Grammar, and Mr. E. E. Bailey, LL.B., who was educated at the Sacred Heart College. Both were born in 1907. Mr. Minns is a Rugby player, who was chosen for the first Waratah test, says a Press Association message.

Mr. Ramsay MacDonald, leader of the British Labour Party, is making a visit to Vienna, Prague and Berlin. He will be accompanied by Sir Oswald Mosley, who is a Labour member of Parliament, and his wife, Lady Cynthia Mosley, who is a daughter of the late Marquis Curzon, formerly Foreign Secretary. It has been arranged that while in Berlin Mr. Ramsay MacDonald shall address members of the German Reichstag in tho Reichstag building.—Official Wireless.
