(From Our Own Correspondent.) Whatever magnetism was in the words “Hunt Club ball” was well exemplified on Thursday night, when it drew to the Motonui hall the record crowd of about 125 couples. Although the rain threatened to mar the proceedings, the crowd arrived before the night grew really boisterous, and when one was inside the ballroom all thoughts of the elements were entirely forgotten. For the ballroom was gaily decorated with red, white and green streamers, that drooped gracefully from the ceiling in an ingenious manner. The ballroom was further enhanced with a mass of greenery attractively placed around the walls. The supper-room with its tables of trifles, fruit salad, etc., was charmingly decorated with vari-ooloured streamers; the spring flowers in the many vases were an added attraction. Dancing in such a crowd was rather arduous at times but everyone had a most enjoyable time. Mr. B. H. Chaney (master of the hounds) said he was sorry that the president, Mr. Halcombe, could not attend to present the trophies. He called on Miss Peggy Halcombe to present the trophies. Mr. A. Webster, the rider of Passport, which won the first class race, received the trophy on behelp of Mr. A. Cole, who was absent. Mr. R. Hill, owner of Hilton, winner of the second class event, was heartily congratulated by Mr. Chaney. It showed how consistency could often materialise. In presenting Miss H. Cole, winner on Parekura, of the women’s race, and Miss Newton, owner of Lady Shimose, winner of the consolation, Mr. Chaney said women members were very keen. Mr. Chaney thanked Messrs. P. Cole and J. Robinson and others for the use of their properties for the point-to-point meeting. With alluring strains from McNeill’s orchestra, dancing was kept up to a late hour. Extras were played by Messrs. P. Munro, Davidson, J. Lawson, and N. Edwin. The duties of M.’sC. were capably carried out by Messrs J. Robinson and E. Hook. Mrs. Q. McKenzie is at present indisposed. Miss Q. Jones is teaching at Fitzroy school. Airs. E. Giddy is well on the way to ■complete recovery from her illness.
