JEWEL SMUGGLING ALLEGED
DISCLOSURES AT RIO DE JANIERO. By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyrig*-*. Received Oct. 7, 5.5 p.m. Rio de Janeiro, Oct. 6. The police believe they have unearthed huge smuggling operations in jewels covering a dozen years. They have arrested Jacquin Miranda, a member of the harbour Customs’ staff, and are now trying to trace a package of diamonds worth £30,000. The police are unable to tell whether the package was safely carried ashore or whether it was dropped overboard and for ever lost in the centre of the deep ■i arbour of Rio de Janeiro.
