IRRIGATION WORK IN GREECE
BRITISH ENGINEERS ENGAGED. British Official Wireless. Rugby, Oct. 5. During his recent visit to Paris and London M. Venizelos, the Greek Premier, held conversations with Mr. Charles Boot, head of the firm of public works contractors, and Sir Murdock MacDonald, head of £ well-known firm of consulting engineers, and has entrusted them with the task of dealing with vast areas of land to be reclaimed, and, where possible, irrigated, on the plains of Thessaly and in Epirus and other districts of Greece for the benefit of agriculture. The works involved will ultimately cost at least £10,000,000. Surveys will take about two years and will engage a large staff of engineers and surveyors. This programme of work is in continuation of the policy of the Greek Government to make ail land inside its present borders available for its people whose numbers have been largely reinforced by the return within recent years of about 1,800,000 repatriated Greeks from Asia Minor.
