OAKURA. (From Qur Own Correspondent). The library committee met last week to discuss means for raising funds to meet the expense of improvements and renovation, and to revise the rules of membership. It was agreed to hold a social at the end of this month. A .suggestion had been made that members wishing to borrow an extra book could do so on payment of another 2s 6d per annum, the present fee being 5e for two books. This was carried, and the rule altered. There are now 1000 books in the library, many of them being of recent publication. The district has reason to bo proud of its circulating library. The young folks of the district gave a dance on Tuesday night, which was quite well attended, and went off very happily. The supper was one of the home-baked variety, and the budding spinsters who provided it gave an exceedingly good account of their culinary powers. Mr. Stavely, jr., a visitor from Wellington, performed in step-danciiig, his two items being “Chantreuse” and the Irish jig, both of which were enthusiastically received and encored. Miss Maisie Rusling sang with her particular charm and sweetness, and gave an encore in response to insistent applause. Mrs. Harris played for bMh artists. The financial result of the entertainment was quite satisfactory.
The home nursing students who eat for the examination have received notice that they have all passed, the papers having been individually and as a whole very well done. Miss Kathleen Morris heads the list with 96 per cent., 78 per cent, being the lowest. The class may be congratulated on a, good Dorfwniancs,
