MAGISTRATE’S COURT
CASES HEARD IN WAITARA. Mr. R. W. Tate, S.M., presided over a short sitting of the Magistrate's Court at Waitara yesterday morning. Judgment by default was given in the following cases: —S. G. Burrowes v. H. L. Slight, £lO 18s 6d (costs £2 16s); H. I. Chittenden v. Teko Waiters, £5 10s (costs £1 19s 6d); Purchas and Son v. Tunga Paekawa, £6 ■Bs 6d (costs £1 17s 6d); Fitzgerald and O’Neill v. Kenneth M. Fraser, £133 3s 7d (costs £7 10s 6d); Stephen Mockett v. George Hunt,'£6 5s (costs £2 4s 6d); John Kempsell v. Jack Patu, £5 10s Cd (costs £2 4s 6d); Weston Bros. v. H. Weston, £2O (costs £2 16s); R. Syder v. L. Kitney, £lO 4s (costs £2 14s). In judgment summons cases H. L. Slight was ordered to pay A. L. Herbert the sum of £29 9s 6d forthwith, in default 30 days’ imprisonment.
Reginald W. Fowler and Murray Fowler were charged with failing to notify the Defence Department of their change of address. In the charge made by Sergeant-Major Bell, it was stated that the trainees in question had not attended a parade for two years and had had previous convictions in January, 1927. A fine of 30s was inflicted on both, with costs 12s. Fred. Bowers defended his case for failure' to attend parades and pleaded that- a misunderstanding had occurred regarding transfers. He was fined 10s, with costs 12s.
David S. Robinson, Government apiary instructor, charged Robert Hill with having kept bees in other than standard hives and also with failing to- register his apiary. The inspector mentioned that odd hives were easily overlooked and might be affected with disease. Defendant, however, had destroyed the hive and he did not ask for a heavy penalty. Defendant was convicted _on both charges and ordered to pay 30s costs.
