WELLINGTON’S WONDERFUL PROGRESS.

PIERCING THE WAINUI HILL. Visitors to Wellington, particularly those who make periodic trips, must 'be struck with the steady increase in the number of palatial shop and office buildings which are being erected, despite the period of depression through which the country has just passed. Thesee striking evidences of the faith of financial and commercial institutions in the future of the country, and of Wellington in particular, are fully justified by facts. Not onlj is Wellington the seat of Government, but more and more are the institutions and companies operating in New Zealand moving their headquarters to Wellington, together with their staffs. This tends to a greater rate of increase in the population than would normaly be the case. By reason, too, of its central position, many new industries are commencing operations. The city is, however, handicapped by the limited area of flat or comparatively flat land, with the result that the population of the Hutt Valley is increasing by leaps and bounds. The following population figures speak for themselves: — 1906 1916 1926 19'28 Fetone and

Lower Hutt 9300 12,008 19,340 24,000 The rapid development of our secondary industries has led to the establishment of a new industrial area on the eastern side of the Hutt Valley. This area, on which the new railway workshops are being erected, is to be served by rail and deep water wharf .at Point Howard, which lies between Petone and Lowry Bay.

Realising that the already rapid increase in Wellington’s population will be accelerated by this industrial development, a big project for the piercing of the Wainui Hills by a two-way tunnel for vehicular and pedestrian traffic, and the subsequent development of the Wainui-o-mata Valley has been launched. Because this is nearer than any other suburban area, and because it js naturally so ideally suited for the purpose of a model suburb, Wainui-o-mata is the next logical site for residential purposes. Every conceivable factor for sound successful development has been taken into account. Expert town planners have done their work well, and the company behind this project—Wainui-o-mata Development, Ltd. —have made the bond issue a most attractive investment.

Approximately 906 acres are now being sub-divided, leaving over 3000 acres to be dealt with later. Investors in bonds become entitled to a section at prices infinitely lower than are obtaining in less favoured localities, and share in the profits of future sub-divisions. The Taranaki representative is Mr. P. WSpoug, whom investors are advised to see without delay.*
