PULVERISED COAL
A CANADIAN EXPERIMENT. An interesting experiment in regard to the use of pulverised coal for - fuel in steamers is being undertaken by the Dominion Shipping Company, a Canadian firm. The eteamer Lingan, of SOO tons, which has been engaged in the coal trade between Sydney (Nova Scotia) and Montreal, ie being equipped with pulverised fuel-burning apparatus at the Halifax shipyards, and in shipping circles the undertaking is considered: to be of great importance. The fitting of the steamer with pulverisers,, distributors and burners to utilise powdered coal is reported to be the first installation of the kind by a private shipping firm in the Empire. It ie not unlikely that a similar experiment will be made with an Australian coastal steamer in the near future.
