NORTH ISLAND TITLE RACE BELLRINGER WINS AT AU KLAND. TARANAKI FILLS THREE PLACES. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. Heavy rain and a strong wind made conditions decidedly unpleasant for the North Island cycle road race championship from Hamilton to Auckland on Saturday. The event was won by N. Bellringer (New Plymouth), who covered the 90-mile stretch in 4hrs. 45Jmin., riding a remarkable race. The winner made his victory' more noteworthy by reason of the fact that he was never far behind the leading bunches at any stage, although he crossed the starting line in Hamilton 23 minutes after the despatch of the first contestant.

Second and third places were filled by R. Yardley (4hrs. 42min.) aud L. Cargen (4hrs. 42Jmin.) respectively. These two competitors also represented Taranaki. The well-known Gisborne cyclist, 8. Aroa was riding well and slowly gained. He caught the bunch at Lepperton, where Bullot dropped back. Soon after turning along the main road Ward and Doig dropped back and Aroa left Lehrke and Collingwood ouco more to travel alone, after the leader. Aroa caught Wiley at Bell Block factory. At the turn at Waitara Christiansen and Kopu, riding well, were leading by 15sec. from Reilly and Way. The four back-mark-ers were 3min. lOsec. behind the leaders at the turn. It looked as if the leaders would win the race, but a strong head wind made things difficult. Five miles from home Christiansen, Kopu, Reilly and Way were together, two minutes ahead of the baek-markers. It still appeared as if the limit men would win, but the back group, by strenuous efforts, were, wearing the leaders down. Nearing the finish it was still hard to say whether the leaders would win or not, as the back-markers still had a lot to catch up. However, they had made it al the foot of the Mangaone hill, three-quarters of a mile from home. In the sprint Hookham showed out and proved that he was undoubtedly the junior champion.
