BAND QUEEN CARNIVAL. (From Our Own Correspondent.) With only a fortnight to go all the committees of the respective band queen carnival candidates are working very hard in the hope of bringing their queen out top of the poll. The following is the present position of the candidates:Maroon (Miss Bocoek) t ,,. 1 Yellow (Miss Julian) 2 Av nite (Miss Dodunski) 3 Blue (Miss Tippins) . 4 Mr. P. Pope arrived to-day to fill the vacancy on Newton King, 'Ltd.’s staff caused by the resignation of Mr. G. Roberts. The latter is leaving shortly for England, where he intends joining the flying corps. The committee of the Inglewood ladies’ rest room held their usual monthly meeting on Wednesday. Present: Mrs. Winfield (chair), Mesdames Stuart, Simpson, Klenner, J. Young, Gow, Knofflock, O’Donnell and the secretary, Mrs. Burgess. In regard to the mart, held on August 8, it was stated that country people, who use the rest room, showed their appreciation of the effort of the committee by bringing loads of vegetables, cakes and jam for the mart, and the funds benefited considerably therefrom. Mrs. Bennett, the caretaker, gave a child’s petticoat for a guessing competition, which brought in £1 5s 7d; a ham given by a member of the committee brought in £)k 10s; and a dinner given by another member brought in £2 10s. The total amount realised, £l6 0s lOd, was thought very satisfactory. On Tuesday afternoon the Inglewood ladies journeyed to Stratford, where a match was played against the local ladies. A very enjoyable day was spent, Stratford winning comfortably. The following were the results, Inglewood ladies being mentioned first:— Morning play.—Airs. Grant lost to Mrs. Curtis; Mrs. Winter lost to Mrs. Williams; Mrs. O’Carroll lost to Airs. Berg; Mrs. Darlow lost to Airs. Burmester; Aliss Johnston lost to Mrs. Boon; Mrs. Poole lost to Aliss North; Miss Gow and Miss Penn all square; Mrs. Partridge lost to Mrs. Abraham; Airs. Kirk lost to Aliss Thorp; Airs. Mulholland won from Airs. Knewstubb; Miss Wilson won from Aliss Malone; Airs. Baxter lost to Mrs. Cathie. Afternoon play.—Mrs. Grant and Airs. Winter lost to Mrs. Curtis and Mrs. Williams; Airs. O’Carroll and Miss Johnston lost to Mrs. Boon and Mrs. Burmester; Mrs. Poole and Mrs. Gow won from Aliss North and Miss Penn; Mrs. Partridge and Mrs. Kirk won from Airs. Chadwick and Aliss Thorp; Mrs. Mulholland and Aliss Wilson won from Airs. Knewstubb and Mrs. Malone.
