IMMIGRATION GRAFT CHARGE
CANADIAN MINISTER’S DENIAL. By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. Ottawa, May 18. Mr. W. J. Egan, Minister of Immigration, refuted the graft charges in connection with immigration permits before the inquiry. He stated that, of 3061 permits issued, 2900 were sponsored by members cf Parliament. None did so for gain, and not one officer in the department received one cent. The department had discovered attempts to use bogus permits, but not one passed the officers. The matter was placed in the hands of the Mounted Police and one man was apprehended. He had received complaints in two instances, where money had been taken for permits.
