PRAISE OF TERRITORIALS
DEFENCE OF MILITARY TRAINING. (By Wire —Special to News.) Auckland, Last Night. A word in praise of present-day Territorials was spoken by General R. Young at a returned soldiers’ gathering to-day. The present "boys,” he said, were quite as good as the members of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force were, and he felt confident that if they were called upon they would do their part equally as well as the Dominion’* soldiers in the late war.
General Young went on to remark that while a good deal was heard in opposition to military training he was quite sure it was a good thing for the noy* who underwent it. It was in their interests to be disciplined, to turn out well and toe the mark, and he added that so long as he had the backing of the returned soldiers throughout the Dominion he did not care twopence for anything else. Britain had never looked for trouble, said General Young, but it always considered it a duty to be prepared to defend the home* and liberties of W>» people.
