EAST COAST TRAIN SMASH
ENGINE SKIDS ON A HILL CRASH INTO PASSENGER CAR NONE SERIOUSLY INJURED Press Association Extraordinary. Gisborne, This Morning. Meagre details of a train accident on the Gisborne-Motu railway near Rakauroa this evening show that tire train left Gisborne this afternoon for Motuhora. The train could not take the Otoko Hill; so it was divided. The engine took a few carriages up first. Coming down for more carriages the engine skidded owing to the greasy nature of the line, and the back portion crashed into.the second half of the waiting train. A carriage containing first and second-class passengers was derailed.
It is understood no one was seriously hurt, but three or four passengers were badly shaken and are suffering from shock.
A relief train with .. doctor and nurses, was immediately dispatched and is not expected to return with the passengers before 2 a.m.
