NEW SOUTH AFRICAN FLAG
OFFICIAL HOISTING ON MAY-31. UNPLEASANT EPISODES OCCUR. By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. Australian Press Association. Capetown, May 16. The hoisting of the new flag on May 31, Union Day, is giving occasion for unpleasant episodes in country towns in which the arrangements are being undertaken by the local Nationalists, who have invited extreme Nationalists to speak. The Mayors of Paarl and GiaaffReinet refuse to participate. The Governor-General will hoist the flag at Parliament Buildings and the Ministers will perform the ceremony in Pretoria and other principal centres. There is a suspicion that the Union flag will be hoisted on the principal pole, which will arouse animosity.
