PLUNKET SOCIETY. (From Our Own Correspondent). On Wednesday the twentieth annual meeting of the "Eltham Plunket Society was held, the following being present: Sir Walter Carncross (chairman), Lady Carncross, Mesdames W. W. Avery 1 (president), L. Curtis, C. Martin (Stratford), Best, Gover, Stewart (2), Thomson, Picard, Coward, MacDonald, Ware, Campbell, Weir, Garden, Isaacson, L. H. Jardine (Stratford), S. Kay (Stratford). The chairman eulogised the great work the society was carrying out. The* annual report and balance-sheet for the year ending March 31, 1928, was presented and adopted. Membership showed a decrease of 11, and is now standing at 121. The balance-sheet showed that the sum ot £4B 12s was realised from a Paddy’s Market held last August and £l7 10s from a street stall held on December 22 last. The society were also instrumental in collecting £l7 10s from the sale of poppies on Poppy Day. The report also referred appreciatively io much assistance that had been rendered to the society by various people. The balance-sheet showed total receipts £172 10s Cd, expenditure £122 13s fid, leaving a balance of £49 17s.

Sixteen players took part and spent an enjoyable day. The results were as follows:—Skips: C. E. Rowe, 5 wins and 1 draw; M. Kitchen, 3 wins, 2 losses and 1 draw; E. L. Renai, 3 wins, 3 losses; G. H. The football club have practically completed arrangements in connection with their forthcoming seven-a-side tournament to be held on Saturday next. Given fine weather there will be a good day’s sport. Last Wednesday afternoon members of the Eltham Croquet Club met to say farewell to Mr. and Mrs. Isaacson, two of their members who are leaving the district. Competitions were played and resulted as follows: Golf croquet, Miss Carncross with Mrs. Fountaine as run-ner-up; bull’s eye, Mrs. McGarry and Mrs. Tate as runner-up. Appropriate speeches were made and afternoon tea served. Later in the day Mrs. Isaacson presented the Isaacson Cup to Miss McDonald. Other trophies won during the afternoon were presented by Mrs. Carman. The donors were Mesdameii Manly, McGarry and Carman. The Eltham Tennis Club have commenced a series of progressive bridge parties. The winners of the first scries of games were Mrs. E. E. Carter and Mr. A. Chrystal. Supper was served by the ladies. Dancing was commenced after supper. Local bowlers are to close the season this (Thursday) afternoon, when they arc to play off for Mr. Gower’s trophy. Thanks to the long and dry summer, players have had a long and strenuous se.'i son.
