The Hon. O. R. Snowball, Speaker of the Victorian Legislative Assembly, has died at the age of GB, slates a Alelbourne message. Air. J. C. Rolleston, M.P. for Waitomo, and Mrs. Rolleston were present at the Awakino Dog Trials yesterday.

A vote of condolence with Air. W. J. Chaney in the loss of his wife was passed by the Taranaki Justices of the Peace Association last night. Firth, who have resided at I-ower Mangorei for a number of years and who are now leaving the district, were farewellcd on Thursday evening by a large gathering of residents of the district. Air. Firth lias been chairman of the school committee for some time and Mrs. Firth postmistress. On behalf of the settlers Mr. 8. G. Smith, chairman of the Taranaki Education Board, presented Mr. lirtli with a handsome clock, while Mr. M. Goldsbury, the headmaster of the schcot presented Airs.
