The Hon. O. R. Snowball, Speaker of the Victorian Legislative Assembly, has died at the age of GB, slates a Alelbourne message. Air. J. C. Rolleston, M.P. for Waitomo, and Mrs. Rolleston were present at the Awakino Dog Trials yesterday.
A vote of condolence with Air. W. J. Chaney in the loss of his wife was passed by the Taranaki Justices of the Peace Association last night. On a recent Sunday evening Mr. Bernard Page, Wellington city organist, gave his five hundredth recital on the Town Hall organ. For the occasion a special souvenir programme was issued. Mr. R. Crawshaw, of the New Plymouth staff of the National Bank of New Zealand, who has been transferred to the Gisborne branch, .wag on Aionday presented with a handsome, traveling bag by his fellow officer?. In making the presentation, Air. Alcllardy referred to the many good qualities of their colleague, and wished him success in his new position. The Hon. G. J. Anderson, Minister of Labour and Mines, leaves for England by the Alataroa to-morrow for tho purpose of consulting medical specialists. It is understood that it is unlikely he will again resume Ministerial responsibility. The Prime Afinister stated this afternoon that the new Alinisterial arrangements rendered necessary by Mr. Anderson’s departure arid the death ot Mr. Bollard last year will not be announced until after Mr. Anderson’s departure. —Press Association. Air. and Mrs. J. Firth, who have resided at I-ower Mangorei for a number of years and who are now leaving the district, were farewellcd on Thursday evening by a large gathering of residents of the district. Air. Firth lias been chairman of the school committee for some time and Mrs. Firth postmistress. On behalf of the settlers Mr. 8. G. Smith, chairman of the Taranaki Education Board, presented Mr. lirtli with a handsome clock, while Mr. M. Goldsbury, the headmaster of the schcot presented Airs. Firth with a travelling rug as a token of the appreciation of the residents of her work as postm’sl tress*
