INGLEWOOD NEWS.

SUCCESS OF SWIMMING CLUB. (From Our Own Correspondent.) At the annual meeting of the Inglewood Swimming Club during the week the president, Mr. J. R. G. Sutherland, presided over a large and enthusiastic attendance. The secretary stated that the last season had been a very successful one. As was shown by the balance-sheet, the carnival was a great success. Several members had travelled to outside carnivals and had met with varied success. At the Taranaki championships Mr. G. Roberts had gained second place in the 220 yards and G. Sutherland second in the 220 yards breaststroke. The president, in moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, stated that the club was in a good financial position. He thought the secretary should have mentioned his own success in winning the Dalgleish Cup outright. This showed that the club could hold its own with outside swimmers. The balance-sheet showed that the season had started with a credit of £4 12s 8d and finished with a credit of £l2 4s 2d. The main source of revenue was the carnival. The election of officers resulted: President, Mr. J. Sutherland (re-elected); vice-presidents, Messrs. O’Neill, Mcßae, O’Carroll and Healy; joint secretaries, Messrs. G. Sutherland and G. Roberts; committee, Messrs. Andrews, Gow, Coles, Lindsay, Devereux; club captain, Mr. WKivell; delegates to centre, the joint, secretaries; auditor, Mr.- J. Penn.

The subscription was fixed at 5s for seniors and 2s 6d for juniors. ZHie secretary was voted an honorarium of one guinea. The following new members were elected: Messrs. Hinge, Kivell, R. and <O. Crossman, C. Evans, Wanklyn and McRae, and Masters Lindsay and Parfitt and Misses T. and J. Mcßae. Arrangements for the coming season were discussed. Several members were dissatisfied with the present time-table, and Messrs. Sutherland and Roberts were appointed to wait on the baths committee to endeavour to arrange a more suitable time-table. A motion of sympathy with Mr. P. McGonagle in the loss of his son Clive, who had been one of the most .promising members of the club, was passed. GENERAL ITEMS.

A combined choirs’ festival of the archdeaconry of Taranaki was held in St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, Inglewood, on Thursday evening. The choir com-' p.lsed 88 members and Mr. R. N. Renaud presided at the organ, the music being very- inspiring. The church was well filled, about 220 being present, including 10 clergymen. The lessons were read by Archdeacon Evans and Canon Kayll, while' Canon Fancourt, of Palmerston, gave an eloquent address. The members of the ladies’ guild entertained the visitors to tea and, after the service, to supper. At one time this festival was an annual event in Taranaki, but in the last two years it has been dropped and churchgoers are very -pleased to see it rcinstituted.
