CORRESPONDENCE

DISCOURTESY NOT INTENDED. (To the Editor.) 'Sir, —It was with feelings of surprise that I read that part of your, report of the Hawera County Czuncil dealing with my letter, and I trust that you will correct through your column: the false position in which I have been placed. After vain appeals stretching over some considerable time, I at last, in desperation. appealed in a straightforward manner to the council to do something to make the houses in Princes Street extension, beyond th? intersection of that street and Little George St”eet, at least decently approachable. Any feeling of good citizenship which I might possess when paying out ye..r after year for rates begin to pall as correspondingly year after year nothing is done to improve conditions affecting me, and when after fruitless promisJes of consideration by the county engineer and Or. Murdoch, I pen a straightforward letter to the council, it is branded “discourteous” and “received.” Meaning, I presume, ignored. Never having been imbued wfth the education and desire to enter such exalted public life, I have possibly erred in not bringing sufficient humility to bear upon the mighty few. Discourtesy was never intended; my only quest was for fair play. Trusting that I have made my position clear, and hoping that the council will see lit to lift the dark shroud which must sow surround my name.—l anl, etc.. '■ : WIDLIS JOHNBON. Hawei'a; Nog.
