Smith, at a meeting of the New l*lyi xOuth Borough Council last night, in reference to a recommendation in the works comr ittee report that in order to provide temporarily for a more adequate water supply, the borough engineer be instructed to connect the Ij-inch water main with the new foiebay, including n reducing pressure valve. Provision for such a course was made when the new forebay was constructed, and it is expected that the work will be completed at a cost of undoi £2OO. In effect, the change will mean that the town water supply will now have “first draw” from the water which feeds the turbines at the electric light and tramways power-house. Tn response to Cr. Smith’s remark. Cr. McPhillipi said that there was no doubt that during the dry period the water pressure in town as not sufficient for fire purposes, and what was more, the water was not as clean as it should be. He was proceeding with his explanation when Cr. Smith interposed a -suggestion that the matter ought not to be discussed in open council.
