TECHNICAL COLLEGE
NEW PLYMOUTH BOARD .MEET. The monthly meeting of the New Plymouth Technical College Board was held in New Plymouth last night. Present: Messrs. P. J. H. White (chairman), R. J. Dea re, A. L. Roberts, W. G. Reid, (J. H. Dolby, F. Stansfield, H. Chapman, F. Colcma'n and the director (Mr. A. L. Moore). An apology was received from Mr. J. S. Connett. As this was the first meeting since the election of the new board, Mr. P. J. H. White was re-elected chairman and as a finance committee, Messrs. Chapman, Deare and Connett were appointed. The visiting committee for the month is Messrs. Connett and Chapman. The report of the director (Mr. A. L. Moore) stated that during the month the schools were visited by the secondary inspectors in connection with senior free places. The technical inspectors were due to visit later for a similar purpose. The attendance at evening classes bad not been quite so good this term but was satisfactory' on the whole. Where the attendance of apprentices had been slack a note to the employers had had the desired effect. This showed the value of co-operation between school and employer. A little more equipment was necessary for the engineering workshop. This was to facilitate the work of the large classes in the workshop. The grinding machine could also be used with special wheels for wood-working tools and thus save the expense of a grindstone.
The Plumbers’ Board of New Zealand advised that the college had been established as an examination centre for the examinations on October 28 and 29. The Taranaki School Committees’ Association advised that Mr. A.. Roberts had been re-appointed to represent the school committees on the board.
The Department of Education advised that sums amounting to £163 2s Id and £399 had been lodged in the bank to the board's account.
