GENERAL ITEMS. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The first junior race for the series for a silver cup. allocated as a points’ prize, was run oil' on Saturday afternoon round the Palmer Road block, a distance of 11 miles, in bright sine shine. Although a strong breeze was quite noticeable to anyone looikng on, it was rather appreciated by riders in helping to. keep them cool. Only four out. of the nine nominated started, but these gave a fairly good account of themselves. The two riders to Set off together first were G. Williams and H. George, who had two minutes start on the other two riders, E. Lines and W. Thorpe. From the start-off. Williams looked to be pretty fit from the pace he set up shortly after starting off down the Manaia Road, and sidli proved to be the case, as he arrived well ahead of the next man, Thorpe, by roughly three quarters of a mile, with a similar distance between the second rider, Thorpe, and the other two riders who went over the lineswith barely a wheel's length between them. In adition to winning the race Williams also secures the fastest time, and this should give him with his win as well a good startoil' in points for the cup. Following is the time of the respective riders: G. Williams (2min), 32miu 45sec; W. Thorpe (scr), 35min 2sec; E. Lines (scr), •ISmin; H, George (2min) 38min l-ssec. Several senior riders jourikeyed to Wanganui to compete in the 50 mile race conducted by the Wanganui Cycle Club. The local riders had a day out, and secured honours for first, second, third, fourth and fastest time. The performances of these riders are very encouraging to members of the club, who work hard in the interests of the riders. Following are the riders: H. Booock, first and fastest time; G. Payne, second; F. Litchwark, third; L. S. Gargan, fourth; . R. Yardley, of New Plymouth, finished fifth, and secured second fastest time honours Rimi Hill, of Christchurch, by halt a wheel - . PERSONAL. ■The many friends of Air. T. Suthern, formerly of Eltham Road, but now on the Alangawhero Road, Riverlea, who sometime ago met with an accident, while engaged in working a horse on liis farm, and sustained a broken ankle, necessitating his removal to the HaWera hospital for treatment, will be pleased to know that he is slowly recovering, but it will be sometime before lie can get about Mi the foot again to make use of it. Mr. N. G. Mellow, of Rowan, who sometime ago went to Wanganui to undergo treatment for eye trouble, lias lately been home for a few days, but returned there on Wednesday last to take a further treatment. ” Airs. G. S. Cook, of Stratford, was on a short visit to her son, Mr. R. G. Cook, during the early part of last week. Mr. and Mrs. 1). J. Kehely returned by the mail train oil Thursday night from their extended tour of Hie Wellington district, the former feeling much bcueiitted by his trip after his recent illness, and will resume his usual business duties on Monday next. Mr. and Mrs. J. Guy, accompanied by Misses J. and AL Severne, left at an curly hour on Saturday morning by private car for Auckland. While there, they will visit their two eldest daughters.

We are very sorry to have to report that Mr. F. Hickey; of Manaia Road, is laid up with a very severe attack of pneumonia. His many friends hope to hear of an early improvement.
