The Riga correspondent of the Times reports that Voroshiloff, the Soviet Commissar for War, announces that already there are 72 women officers in the Red Army. Eight have passed the staff examination and 19 participated in the Pan-Soviet shooting contests, showing great skill with revolvers. The Riga correspondent of the Times reported on October 10 that in a speech to a women’s congress at Moscow, War Commissar Voroshiloff declared.that during peace the Red Army accepted only women volunteers, but the Soviet Jaw provided for women’s compulsory military service in war-time.
