DOMINION HORSES LEAVE. DEPARTURES FROM SYDNEY, Bj Teleffrapii—-Press Assn;—Copyright. Sydney, Oct. 15. A big contingent of New Zealand racehorses, including Limerick, Battlement, Piuthair, Clarinda, Tariff, Arikiwai and Roscrea, left for New Zealand by the Ulimaroa, and the passengers included Messrs H. A. Knight and R. McKenzie, and the jockeys Manson, Barry and Burt. REVIEW OF RECENT FORM. (By “Hurry On.") Te Monanui looks none the worse for his race in Auckland: in fact, it is doubtful if he over looked better. He will be a runner in the open six the first day in Wellington and ou the second day will take his place in the field against Limerick in the Champion Plate. He will be sent to Wellington to morrow accompanied by Miss Mercia and Te Afciawa. The former lightened up a bit after Wanganui, but has come on well of late. Jerry’ O'Driscoll has Tawohi looking big and muscular. He was disappointed at the son of Kilbroney-’a showing at Wanganui, but expects him to do better at Waverley. A nolo had a roug h passage in the race at the Mauawatu Hunt meeting, and at one stage was jammed against- the rails. The marks are still visible and show that the bump must have been a very severe one. Manly’s win at Auckland the second day’ was freely anticipated in New Plymouth, where the Archiestown gelding was backed as though he were a Limerick. Billy' Mantle has been very patient with this fellow and he should score again in the near future. Rotowhero, who paid a sensational dividend at Otaki, was under offer to a local sportsman about twelve months ago, but no business resulted. Royal Ceres, who scored at Carterton on Saturday, was a good class two-year-old last season, and on one occasion accounted for Agrion. He is engaged in the Shorts at Trentham with 7.9 and is sure to have plenty of friends. He is an Australian-bred gelding by Flying King. Though Childsplay’ won in such brilliant fashion at Wingatui, many Riccarton track watchers are of the opinion that his stable mate, Full Feat .er, is likely to turn out a better horse. Full Feather is engaged in the Taira Handicap on Saturday, and his : -pearance will be watched with interest. NEW PLYMOUTH TRACK NOTES. All the work at New Plymouth ou Saturday’ took place ou the trial grass, which was in good order. Patrolet finished in front of "awehi over five furlongs, the last four taking 42sec.

Flying Shot. Te Atiawa ami Closefire sprinted three furlongs in even time.

The Swell and Onolo had a good working gallop. Te Monanui, assisted by Miss Mercia and Aropeta, was cent seven furlongs, the last six taking Imin. 23see. The dual Mitchelson Cup wiuner went well. HAWERA TRACK NOTES. Reremouua pleased by the way' he ran along by- himself over four furlongs on the plough in 50sec. Lady Desmond worked very freely over two rounds at half pace.* Barryander ami La’dy Helen were com panions over five furlongs and worked well over the distance in Imin 4sec. Bonogne went over four furlongs in 50'/. sec. Royal Acre ran over four furlongs in 51sec, going very freely. The Lamb accomplished five furlongs in Imin msec.

Paitonu and Airtight were given trotting exercises. Bright- Glow went twice at steady paca work. Euphonium has thrown off the soreness, and was given steady- pace work. Sanfera is showing signs of improvement, and worked nicely over two rounds at a strong pace. Gasnapper was hitting out freely while doing pace work. J. Thacker’s horses were given short sprinting work at the end of each round.

Orcades, Mendip and Golden Flower were given easy’ pace work. Eka and Monsogne worked once round at half pace. •I. Brown’s team, consisting of Silver Mine, Silver Rule, Orazone and Bisox, was given steady pace work. His two other two-year-olds were out trotting, and have now got rid of their colds. T. Tito left for Carterton to ride Waieullus, Twink and Lady- Queen in to-day’s races, TURF TOPICS. (By “Moturoa.”) In New Zealand it would be impossible to obtain a decent, straight-out wager against a horse for an important event, such as the £25,000 to £lOOO in one hand laid by Mr. J. Hackett to Mr. E. A. Connolly over Murillo's Metropolitan Handicap chance. It is unlikely that the jubilee punter “laid off” any of that wager, and Hackett must be an exceptionally wealthy bookmaker to stand “knocks” like this one. On the day, Murillo was a short priced favourite, Limerick being fancied next — and at quite a good price too! For a trifle over two and a-half minutes work in the A.J.C. Derby, R. Lewis earned £343 Ils. H. Jones, who rode Bicolor in the Trial Stakes, and Vaals in the Epsom Handicap, took £lBl 14s. M. McCarteu’s winning ride in the Spring Stakes netted him £9l 10s. Big money—for the lucky honsemen.

Jack Barry's riding in Sydney is said to have impressed the critics over there, ar.d one paper is responsible for the statement, that Mr. Eric Connolly is anxious to retain the New Zealander. If Barry joins tip with such a powerful owner he should soon amass wealth. We do not hear a great deal of George Young at present, but he is getting a fair amount of riding, and is doing well, though not quite as well as Maurice McCarten, who has earned big riding fees with Limerick and other topnotchers.

When A. E. Ellis came a cropper on the ancient Maidos at the Manawatu Hunt meeting it was bad luck for him, for severe concussion barred him from taking the

mount on Te Monanui in the Mitchelson Cup. “Snowy” Moc.-is’ services were then secured, and his good fo’tvme was Ellis’ bad luck.

One of the best hacks seen nit at Otaki W’S Duke Abl.ey, a four-y:ar-old gelding by Quin Abbey. Both in private and in public he is a badly behaved brute, but there is no doubt about his speed. He has pace to burn.

Battlement failed to find a new owner in Sydney and will probably be seen out atthe Canterbury Metropolitan meeting in November. His track form on the other side suggests bat he will be one of the fittest houses produced al Riec.arton next month.
