MEMBERS’ SALARIES

INCREASE INOPPORTUNE, PALMERSTON TRADERS’ VIEWS. By TelegraDh.—Press Association. Palmerston N., Last Night. The Palmerston North Chamber of Commerce to-night passed the following resolutions: (1) That the suggestion that the salaries of members of Parliament be increased is most inopportune and that apart from the question of additional expenditure, which must come out of the pockets of the people, it would set a bad example in the matter of economy which the country Is so badly in need of. (2) The chamber views with grave concern and disapproval the recent increase in the income tax*, it being felt that if additional revenue is required it should be obtained by economies rather than by additional taxation.
