GENERAL ITEMS. (From Our Own Correspondent.)

Inglewood, Sept. 13. To-day the ladies of the Inglewood Golf Club played a match against bogey for a trophy presented by Mrs. O’Carroll. The winner was Mrs. Darlow, who was three down on bogey. Mrs. Winter was second, being four down. On Friday evening a ball was held at Norfolk Road and was very generously supported by the public. A waltzing competition was held and received a good number of entries, the winners being Miss Wisnewski and Mr. Feaver. The music was supplied by Mr. Laurei.ce’s orchestra, the M.C.’s being Messrs Fischer and Corney. An exceedingly dainty supper was provided and the patrons were unanimous in that it vfas one. of the most successful balls held at that school.

On Thursday next the Anglican Church are holding their annual bulb show and sale of work. Although the weather has not been very favourable for bulbs, many entries have been received. The show will be open all the afternoon and, in the evening, a number of musical items will be given. Mrs. N. King, who has been an inmate of the New Plymouth Hospital for some time, is making a good recovery and is expected home soon. Mrs. Hinge, who underwent a serious operation at the New Plymouth Hospital on Friday, is making a very satisfactory recovery. At the recent Hawera competitions, Miss Gwendoline Leech, of Inglewood, gained first place in the musical monologue (humourous), gaining 99 marks. Mr. T. Harris, the judge, said it was an excellent performance and her voice was of good quality. Her sister, Miss Marguerite, was also very successful, being a competitor in five vocal sections and gaining four second prizes and on highly commended. In the operatic solo (own selection), Miss Leech sang in Italian and her rendering was highly commented upon by the judge, Mr. C. Towsey. Miss Leech also gained third place for sacred solos.
