"The people who complain of the drift to the towns are pushing us along in a direction that makes it very difficult, if not impossible, to expand the natural and primary production of the country,” said the Hon. He thought that many people would not agree with him when he said that industrialisation was being prematurely forced in New Zealand.

Two large crayfish, a small blue penguin. and a collie dog were found by Mr. L. T. Griffin, of the Auckland Museum, in a 544-pound tiger shark caught by an Adelaide doctor at the Bay of Islands. Referring to it in an address recent, Mr. Griffin said it gave him a good example o’f the “fish yarns” told in the north nowadays. Mr. Allum said the department had been awaiting the results of the bus litigation and the clearing up of one or two other matters. The new committee did not wish to make any report until they were prepared to place definite proposals before the council. Last September an analysis was presented to the City Council showing the result of bus operations to have been a loss of £18,707, while the tramways made a profit of £15,232. The loss on the buses was exclusive of depreciation, for which no allowance was made.
