WALKING OUT OF CHURCH

PROTEST AGAINST SERVICE. DEMAND FOR A NEW VICAR. A further protest against what- they term the Anglo-Catholic character of the service was made on April 10 by members of the congregation at St. Cuthbert’s Church, Darwen, says a London paper. When the vicar, the Rev. E. B. Lauria, entered to conduct sung Eucharist at eleven o’clock more than 60 of the congregation rose and walked from the church. As they went out they were passed by several supporters of the vicar, who joined the worshippers who had remained. The protestants stated that the protest would 'be continued until the service was restored to what they believed to- be Church of Engjand form, and a new vicar appointed. A similar protest was made on the previous Sunday morning. A petition, signed by 1700 parishioners, was recently presented to the Bishop of Blackburn, who advised both sides to meet and repair the damage done by the controversy.
